4.3 Requirements & Evaluation Logic for Mix Summary Statuses

Every active mix is evaluated in real time against a rigorous, prioritized compliance hierarchy. OnlineQC inspects test break values, standard deviations, required average overdesign, active alerts, and test maturation schedules to assign one of six distinct statuses:

Status Badge Priority Triggering Conditions & Technical Requirements Operational Action Protocol
🚨 Non-Compliant
(X Low Breaks < f'c)
1
(Highest)
Condition: stats.hasLowBreaks === true
Triggered whenever one or more verified 28-day cylinder strength tests in the moving 45-test cohort fail to reach the specified design strength:
Individual Break Test < Specified f'c

Example: A 3,500 psi mix has a verified 28-day break of 3,180 psi.
Immediate Producer Action:
  • Open Low Break Alert log to inspect field batch data.
  • Check truck ticket for unauthorized water addition (> batch w/cm).
  • Inspect lab report for cylinder handling or curing flaws (ASTM C31).
  • Coordinate with TCA certifier for engineering review.
⚠️ Below f'cr
(Avg < f'cr psi)
2 Condition: stats.isBelowFcr === true
Triggered when there are zero individual breaks below f'c, but the cohort 28-day arithmetic mean falls below the ACI 318 required average strength (f'cr):
Average 28d Strength < Required f'cr

The mix meets bare minimum strength on every ticket but lacks adequate statistical safety margin required by ACI 318 Table 26.4.3.1(b).
Preventative QC Action:
  • Batching variability or aggregate moisture shifts are narrowing safety buffer.
  • Review plant scale calibration and aggregate gradation.
  • Consider a minor cementitious trim adjustment (+10–15 lb/yd³) or chemical admixture adjustment.
⚠️ X Active Alerts 3 Condition: stats.lowBreakCount > 0
Triggered when open, unresolved low break incident reports exist in the low break investigation queue for this mix, but confirmed cylinder breaks have not yet entered the primary moving cohort.
Investigation Action:
  • Navigate to Tab 3 (Low Break Alerts).
  • Complete the root cause diagnostic checklist.
  • Determine whether ticket should be verified or mathematically omitted.
🌱 Potential Optimization 4 Condition: stats.isPotentialOptimization === true
Triggered when ALL of the following criteria are satisfied:
  1. Zero confirmed low breaks below specified f'c.
  2. Zero active alerts.
  3. Overdesign > +500 psi above required ACI f'cr:
    (Avg 28d - f'cr) > +500 psi
  4. At least 30 verified 28-day test reports: cohortCount ≥ 30 (required for statistical qualification per ACI 318 before mixture optimization).
The entire table row is highlighted in light green, and a green 🌱 Opt badge is placed on the mix ID.
Cost & Cement Optimization Action:
  • The mix is significantly over-designed, consuming more cementitious material than required by ACI code.
  • Eligible for safe cement reduction (typically 20–40 lb/yd³ savings).
  • Consult TCA mix design director to optimize water-cement ratio and submittal documentation.
⏳ X Pending 28d 5 Condition: stats.pending7dCount > 0
Triggered when a mix has test records with valid 7-day breaks recorded (avg7d > 0), but the corresponding 28-day cylinder tests have not yet occurred or been entered.
Note: Pending tickets are displayed in Mix Details for producer visibility, but are properly excluded from summary moving averages until 28-day break results mature.
Schedule Tracking:
  • Monitor break calendar for upcoming 28-day testing dates.
  • Ensure commercial testing lab delivers 28-day PDF report promptly upon break date.
✓ Compliant 6
(Normal)
Condition: Default compliant state.
All 28-day strength tests equal or exceed specified f'c, the 28-day average satisfies ACI required f'cr, there are zero active alerts, and overdesign is within the optimal operating range (+0 to +500 psi above f'cr).
Routine Monitoring:
  • Mix is operating at peak quality compliance and optimal economy.
  • Continue standard batching and testing protocol.

4.4 The 45-Test Moving Average Cohort Methodology

Unlike simplistic systems that lump together years of outdated break data, OnlineQC implements a 45-test moving average cohort. All summary averages—including Slump, Air, Concrete Temperature, 7-Day Strength, 28-Day Strength, 56-Day Strength, Standard Deviation (Ss), and Overdesign—are calculated strictly on up to the most recent 45 consecutive tests of that mix that have verified 28-day results.

Why 45 Tests? Concrete production is subject to seasonal changes, raw material shipments, cement mill variability, and quarry changes. A 45-test moving window satisfies ACI 318 statistical sample requirements (≥ 30 tests) while ensuring that your quality indicators reflect current materials and production conditions rather than obsolete data from previous seasons.

Standard Deviation (Ss) Calculation per ACI 214R:

Sample Standard Deviation Equation:
ss = √ [ ∑ (Xi - X̄)² / (N - 1) ]

Where Xi is individual 28-day strength test, X̄ is the cohort mean, and N is the cohort sample count.

Required Average Strength (f'cr) per ACI 318-19 Table 26.4.3.1(b):

For Specified Strength f'c ≤ 5,000 psi:
f'cr = max [ (f'c + 1.34 × ss),   (f'c + 2.33 × ss - 500) ]
For Specified Strength f'c > 5,000 psi:
f'cr = max [ (f'c + 1.34 × ss),   (0.90 × f'c + 2.33 × ss) ]

4.5 Mix Details & Ticket Explorer

Clicking any mix number in the master table opens the Mix Details & Ticket Explorer:

4.6 Ticket Omission & Quality Audit Trail

When a cylinder break is demonstrably invalid due to documented field errors—such as unauthorized jobsite water addition by a contractor, dropped cylinders, cold weather jobsite storage curing violations (ASTM C31), or testing machine calibration failure—producers can initiate a ticket omission request.

5. Tab 2: Strength Analysis & ACI 318 Submittal Engine

The Strength Analysis tab provides advanced multi-dimensional statistical filtering and engineering modeling adhering to ACI 318-19 Section 26.4.3 and ACI 214R.

6. Tab 3: Low Break Alerts & Root Cause Diagnostic Engine

OnlineQC continuously audits every cylinder break against ACI 318-19 Section 26.12.1.1 concrete acceptance criteria:

ACI 318 Acceptance Standard 1 (Individual Test Criterion):

No individual strength test (average of two 6x12" or three 4x8" cylinders) falls below f'c by more than 500 psi (when f'c ≤ 5,000 psi) or by more than 0.10 f'c (when f'c > 5,000 psi).

ACI 318 Acceptance Standard 2 (Moving Average Criterion):

Every arithmetic average of any three consecutive strength tests equals or exceeds specified f'c.

6.1 Automated Root Cause Diagnostics

When a cylinder break falls below specified strength, OnlineQC's diagnostic engine analyzes fresh concrete properties from the batch ticket to determine the primary contributing factor:

10. Data Exports, Submittals & FAQs

10.1 Reporting & Export Formats

10.2 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How does OnlineQC calculate standard deviation if I have fewer than 30 tests?
A: In accordance with ACI 318 Table 26.4.3.1(a), if fewer than 30 tests are available (between 15 and 29 consecutive tests), the sample standard deviation is multiplied by an ACI modification factor (1.16 for 15 tests, 1.08 for 20 tests, 1.03 for 25 tests, 1.00 for 30+ tests). OnlineQC handles this adjustment automatically in the Strength Analysis module.

Q: How do I know if a mix qualifies for cement optimization?
A: Check the Mix Summary status badge. When a mix achieves the 🌱 Potential Optimization badge (with a green 🌱 Opt pill on the mix code and green row highlighting), its 28-day average strength exceeds the ACI required average strength (f'cr) by more than 500 psi with zero low breaks and at least 30 verified 28-day test reports. This ensures complete statistical confidence per ACI 318 before cement reduction is submitted.

Q: What happens if a contractor adds water on the jobsite?
A: Record the contractor water addition in the ticket details. If the resulting break fails to meet specified f'c, flag the ticket for omission under the "Jobsite Water Addition > Allowable" justification. Once approved by the TCA certifier, the ticket is omitted from the moving 45-test standard deviation calculations to protect your plant compliance record.

Q: Is our data backed up to the cloud?
A: Yes. All data is continuously synchronized with the central Supabase PostgreSQL cloud repository with multi-tier union merge protection to prevent accidental loss or overwrite.
